a Cannoli in Boston’s North End

A couple of weeks ago I got to travel to Boston.
My friend Jennifer recommended trying the cannoli at Boston’s North End.
I got one at this tiny little Italian corner bakery and man was it delicious!
It’s was a mini cannoli covered in chocolate chips. Perfect for a after lunch dessert ๐Ÿ™‚
Sophie was a very happy girl indeed!

The Creamery – Crepes

The Creamery
685 4th St
San Francisco, CA 94107
Price – ($)
Style – American cafe food, crepes

The Creamery, I think is a very interesting name because contrary to public belief – they do not have ice cream.
However, they do make some tasty dessert crepes.

It’s right next to the San Francisco Cal-Train station – 4th & King.
I usually stop by when we go to The Iron Cactus for Taco Tuesdays.

What is cool about the place is that The Creamery and The Iron Cactus are linked restaurants so you can move between both.ย  Which means I can eat dessert and tacos at the same time. Yep and that it makes it like 10x’s better.

Fruity Dessert Crepe @ The Creamery
The dish comes with 2 crepes wrapped with Nutella, bananas, strawberries and blueberries.
Then the crepes are drizzled with some home made whip cream and chocolate syrup.
Plus there’s additional array of fruit on the outside.

Delicious!

Verdict – Yeah I would eat this again ๐Ÿ™‚

My New Love for French Macarons & Miette’s Bakery

Miette
449 Octavia St
San Francisco, CA 94102
Price ($)
*I think there’s also stores in Ferry Building and Oakland.

Welcome to Miette’s!
Jennifer and I stumbled upon Miette’s when trying out Smitten ice cream across the way.
This incredibly cute bakery and sweet shop has now become one of my guilty pleasure.
The staff is very friendly, the sweets are delicious, colorful atmosphere and they have a macaron happy hour!

Yes you heard me a french macaron happy hour at this location on Octavia!
– Monday to Friday from 5-7pm
– French Macarons are $1 each (reguarly $1.75)
– Limit 6

This is a photo of my 1st french macaron ever.

It was a hazelnut french macaron from Miette’s.

It was slightly nutty, a bit of crunch, chewy, sweet and Nutella flavored cream.

…It was divine. Now there’s no going back.
Anyways, I didn’t know I would love macarons. I always thought they would be very airy, crunchy and taste a bit like chalk. I don’t know why I thought this but I did …until Miette’s.

They have 6-7 flavor of french macarons and they can vary day to day. So far I’ve had the liberty of tasting rose, orange chocolate, vanilla, hazelnut, and chocolate. Yes they are all amazing!!! I do love the hazelnut the best.

This is love.
So you may think this is a bit silly to declare love for the 1st French macaron that I meet.
However, I assure you with the utmost ability that yes! this really is a delicious macaron.
I know it in my heart we are meant to be.

The other goodies I got from the shop were equally as delicious!

– Miette Chocolate Sable Cookies dipped in Sea Salt and Dark Chocolate – highly recommended for chocolate addicts!
– A piece of Caramel
– A assortment of black licorice from the candy jars for someone special

I saw at Costco and Amazon.com that Miette has a cookbook out.
Has anyone tried it? I’m very interested in picking it up!

Mascarpone Fruit Pots – a summer delight!

I wish it was summer already! The weather is quite on the fritz. One moment it’s gloomy and rainy then another moment we are in submerged in a bliss of clear skies and sunshine. Though I can’t really complain because at least we are almost there.

So first off, this was my first time using mascarpone cheese. I actually had to hit up a few grocery stores and call a few friends to hunt down the stuff. I’m so glad that’s it’s in my life because it’s so freakin’ delicious!

Mascarpone can be made from whipping cream.
I bought mine at Whole Foods Market for around $6 a tub.
I found was sold in the refrigerated aisles.

I found this recipe in one of my magazines and I immediately tore it out as I had to make it.
Ha that’s the beauty of magazines I don’t even feel guilty about it and I’m so glad I did. ๐Ÿ™‚

Recipe
Serves 4
(feel free to use other fruit, fresh fruit is the best, just not acidic fruit)
2-3 Mangoes
Raspberries – one carton, 8 oz
Mascarpone 6 oz
Heavy whipping cream – 1 pint
Powdered sugar – 2 table spoons
Lemon zest, optional flavoring + zesting tool recommended

Verdict – Filling and I would consider stopping by again

Gelato Classico Italian Ice Cream
241 Castro St
Mountain View, CA 94041
Type – Gelato

( Sorbet in Lemon & Mango)

I felt the sorbetย  was refreshing and the fruity flavors tasted fresh.
I particularly enjoy the mango taste.

(Chocolate & Double Espresso)

I really like the favor and richness of the gelato.
I thought the chocolate hit the spot.

The gelato shop has wide range of 10-15 flavors of gelato and sorbet.
Depending on the size of the cup, you can choose multiple flavors.
We got the small size approx $4
The shop has 2-3 tables and usually a line out of the door!
The only con is that they only accept cash
Verdict – Very Tasty, you should try it out.

We also stopped by the Red Rock Cafe.
My friends say they have the best coffee in town.
Thanks for joining me of my adventure ๐Ÿ™‚

Chicken Curry Thali Lunch Plate @ Kennedy’s Irish Pub & Curry House
Honestly, this restaurant is a bit odd because it’s an Indian restaurant joined with a Irish pub.
I find the food to be absolutely delicious, flavorful and served in large quantities.
I really enjoyed the lunch plate served 11-2pm as it offers a bit of everything.
San Francisco, California
Verdict – This might be able to persuade me to love Indian Food. Yes it’s that good.

Swedish Meatball Combo Plate @ Ikea (Food Marketplace)
After a day of exhausting furniture shopping, I am pleased to find myself in the haven known as the Ikea food court.
The food court is very reasonable priced and filled with swedish food.
Also These items can also be purchased frozen to cook at home.

The plate is only 5.99 it comes with swedish meatballs, gravy, mashed potatoes, ligon berry sauce and side of garden salad. Since I love desserts we had to have a slice apple pie with cream custard sauce. Needless to say I was stuffed!
Oakland, California – chain store
Verdict – When you are fleeing from shopping the food court is a must detour!

I just finished reading the Clockwork Angel by Cassandra Clare.
It’s about supernatural beings that maintain the balance between good and evil that centers around a girl with shape changing powers and her pursuit to find her brother. It’s considered a prequel to the Eternal Devices series. I found it a interesting fast read. I am looking forward to getting my hands on the next book called the Clockwork Prince. (sci-fi, young adult)

*Everything pictured was under $10 and highly recommended!

Jasmine Thai Restaurant Review

Jasmine Thai
1710 Berryessa Rd
San Jose, CA 95133
Type – Thai

This is a cute little restaurant tucked away in a plaza strip. My roommate and I were craving a bit of Thai food and after looking at some yelp reviews we ended up here. It was a quiet night so there was no wait, the pricing was moderate $ and food arrived quickly.

Pineapple Fried Rice $12
Pineapple fried rice is my favorite dish so I’m quite critical about it. I was pleased with the color array andย  it was ample amount of food with plenty to share. My concern was that I didn’t find the pineapple was able to properly flavor the rice. The rice was quite plain in taste. The dish contains both shrimp / chicken. However only 1-2 shrimp in it.

Would I order again – Eh, it was ok. I would prefer to try something new.

Pad Thai Noodles $8
The pad thai noodles were very yummy! It was what I expected pad thai to taste like. There was a good balance of ingredient, textures and properly cooked noodles.

Would I order again – Yes

Fried Bananas with Coconut Ice Cream $5
It’s a not a night out with some tasty dessert! These are lightly battered fried bananas with coconut and pineapple ice cream. I like the contrasting flavors and temperatures in this dessert.

Would I order again – Probably

Overall I really enjoyed going out with my roomies โค and I would probably recommend Jasmine Thai if I was craving some Thai food near my area. (Total Rating = B / Average)

What we do.

Peggy Sue’s Diner – Burgers & Milkshakes

Peggy Sue’s
185 Park Ave
San Jose, CA 95113
Categories – American, Diners, Burgers

This is a laid back 50’s style diner with old school booths and fast food counter service. It was bustling on the Sunday afternoon and oddly packed with tons of big bowed cheerleaders. It had moderate pricing, fast service and delicious milkshakes.

We ordered mint chip milk shake, Oreo milk shake, little Chicken-a-Dee burger and Blue Hawaii burger.

Milk shakes came in old fashioned glasses with whip cream, cherry and sprinkles! You get a additional metal cup with enough ice cream for another shake. The shakes are thick, with creamy ice cream and plenty ofย  mixed in toppings.

I ordered the Blue Hawaii Burger.
It has 1/3 lb of angus beef, 2 slices of pineapple, 2 strips of bacon, white bun, lettuce, tomato, onion, ketchup and bbq sauce. I really enjoyed this burger as the meat was very tasty and juicy. It all held together nicely. I was impressed with crispy bacon and amount of pineapple. I would re-order this. Also they had tasty curly fries too.

Verdict:
Yum! I would definitely come back for milk shakes and burgers ๐Ÿ™‚

Monthly Recap: Say hello to my delicious chocolate croissant

Douce France
855 El Camino Real
Palo Alto, CA 94301

So I walked 7.4 miles for this croissant and it was delicious. It’s chocolate croissant with a flaky pastry outside and chocolate inside. I’d highly recommend this bakery, service is lovely and they also have some great savory quiches.

This is my monitor at work.
Why is it covered in inspiration quotables?
We were moving cubicles at work and I didn’t want them to lose my monitor.
Fortunately, we were able to fend off the move for a few more weeks.
So in the meantime, that’s where I’ll be chilling.

Una Mas! Mexican Restaurant
Delicious burrito but it was a bit too healthy for my tastes ๐Ÿ˜›
Gosh I miss San Diego Mexican food.
