I have been a subscriber to Birchbox for about a year. Click here for latest Birchbox post.
My love for Birchbox has alerted me to the many different monthly beauty boxes available.
My Beauty Army is a great beauty box for those who want a bit more control over the samples.

My Beauty Army is very similar to Birchbox.
It’s a monthly subscription, you get a black box as seen above and you get high-end deluxe size samples.

The main difference is that you can *CHOOSE* what you get

1) Every month there’s a “window frame” about a 1 wk to choose samples
2) They present 9 samples – you choose 6 to keep
3) You can opt to skip a month of the subscription
4) Different brands available compared to Birchbox
5) Samples choices appear slightly larger in size 1-2oz

These are my choices for My Beauty Army for April 2012.
This is what the choice screen look like and you are maybe to the know the product function/size.

I choose my samples around the 1st of the month and then they arrived around 15th of the month.
They were nicely packaged with a sturdy black box as seen above.

My 6 samples I choose
1. Purlisse Lip Conditioner
2. Babor Cleansing Oil Duo
3. Brow Brush / Razor Tool
4. Befine Night Cream
5. CellCeuticals Skin Treatment
6. My FaceWorks Foundation in Light

TIP/TRICK
If you don’t like the 9 samples option they give you but you want to see if they have something else available.

1) Go to left side of your profile – my beauty profile
2) Retake Beauty Profile
3) New beauty samples will pop up and your 9 choices will CHANGE!
You can take the beauty profile as many times as you like from my experience
However, if you do like something when you retake the profile it can be “lost” in a new set so choose wisely!
I did this a few times to see what is out there and get a better combination.

So far I’ve only really tested 2 out of 6 samples since I’ve been quite busy.
Here’s what I think so far.

I’ve never seen or used a tiny razor like this one before.
It comes with a small brush head that comes off to reveal the razor.
It’s very easy to use and great for tiny hairs.

My FaceWorks Foundation in – Light 02
Normally I would say I’m medium color but after looking at some swatches online I decided to go with Light.
I was very impressed by the sample size which will be good for a series of uses.
I think it’s a wonderful summer foundation and feels natural.
The consistency is very much a liquid form and it is easy to apply. It has medium coverage.

My thoughts?
I really like my Beauty Army and I think I will keep subscribed.
I found the samples I choose to be a solid sample size and I’m pleased with the selection.
I recently received my May 2012 box so stay tuned for that to be posted!

April 2012 – Earth Day Box
1. Benta Berry G-1 Exfoliating Cleanser
2. Wonderstruck by Taylor Swift Perfume
3. Willa Clear Face Moisturizer
4. Alima Pure Nourishing Lip Balm
* Le Palais Tea Bags

Willa Clear Face Moisturizer
Right off the bat, I really like how cute and well packaged this deluxe sample is. It looks like a cleanser bottle but actually a clear moisturizer. The product has a very plant/earthy smell to it but the scent goes away after application. The consistency is very water-based and absorbs quickly into the skin. I did feel soft and smoothness after use and I think it would be a good daily moisturizer for oily/combination skin types. However being prone to dryness I don’t think I would end up purchase this one.

Alima Pure Nourishing Lip Balm – Full Size
I’m really pleased to have received this product. I never heard of the brand but I’m always ready to try a new lip balm as my lips are often in the state of being chapped. The packaging very slim and travel friendly. It has a twist up application.
The color I received in Rhubarb is dusty rose with a very strong minty scent. So far I’m enjoying it and I will be doing a lip balm “wars” post soon to tell you more about the throw down.

Taylor Swift’s Perfume in Wonderstruck
This is a very popular perfume and has easily recognizable bottle. I think this scent is complex floral and I can see how it would make as a nice gift. It’s not too strong or too sweet. There’s definite floral and fruity tones to it. I could seeing myself wearing it.

G-1 Cleanser – Defective
So this was a teeny tiny sample…yes that happens once in awhile. However, I think my sample was defective because no product came out of the tube. Thankfully Birchbox has AMAZING Customer Service and they gave me 100 pts when I told them about the situation so basically I ended up getting this box for free. 100pts = $10 Birchbox store dollars. I didn’t get to try it but I’m ok with that.

Extra – Teas
I don’t really drink teas. I felt these were packaged beautifully and looked very exotic. But with that being said I can’t offer any idea whether it was good or bad.

Overall, I’m happy with the April 2012 Box. I was ecstatic with the Birchbox service over the damaged sample.
So I’m sticking with my Birchbox and I seriously can’t wait for the May Box. These boxes are getting addicting!

Mar 2012 Theme: Teen Vogue

1. Twist Band Hair Tie
2. Annick Goutal Petite Cherie Perfume
3. Essie Luxeffect Nail Polish in A Cut Above
4. Shiseido Pureness Oil Control Blotting Papers
5. Tart LipSurgence Lip Tint in Joy

Twist Hair Ties
Honestly, this is a dud. I don’t know if it’s really a popular trending item because I’m seeing them pop up in a lot of places. This is basically an elastic band with a knot at the end. It’s very simple to make and frankly, for my hair it doesn’t work.
After a few uses, the elastic stretched out and broke. I would stick with my scunii hair bands.

Annick Goutal Petite Cherie Perfume
I don’t really remember this perfume other than I didn’t enjoy it very much.

Essie Luxeffects Nail Polish in A Cut Above – Full Size
OMG! I was so excited to receive this polish and now I’ve worn it 3 times I really can say I love it.
Recently, I’ve been really jumping on the glittery, sparkly nail trend. These flecks are rather large and lean more towards silver than hot pink. They are easy to use and dries pretty quickly. I would recommend it if you like something a bit more special and fun.

Shiseido Pureness Oil-Blotting Papers
I think this was a really nice sample with 10 sheets and I immediately popped it in my bag. It’s always nice to have something to keep matte. I don’t know if I would necessary splurge on these sheets. They get the job done but I don’t see anything to special about them.

Tarte Lip Surgence in Joy – Full Size
I’ve been really interested in trying out the lip surgence products as they look like jumbo lip pencils. The color Joy would be very nice for the summer as it’s coral -red and easily sheered out to preference. I found the product to be slightly minty, smooth texture and even application. I would definitely be willing to try out more of these.

Overall,

I loved this month’s Birchbox and I was very pleased with the Teen Vogue collaboration. I really liked the variety and sure some of them not quite my taste.  But I got to try out 5 new products of which 2 were full size ($34 value) – well worth the price!  I think soon I’m going to upgrade to their yearly plan because I really like this service. Oh! Recently I picked up the Juice Beauty Blemish Serum in Full Size b/c it was so freaking awesome in my Feb box.

Feb 2012 Theme: Spotlight
This month’s samples are to highlight your awesomeness and maybe attract a little attention. 🙂
This is what I received the following in my Birchbox (can vary customer to customer)
1. Dermalogica Daily Microfoliant
2. Eye Rock Designer Liner
3. Jouer Lumizing Moisture Tint
4. Juice Beauty Blemish Clearing Serum
Treat – Heart Shaped Nail File & Green River Ordinance Digits Download

Below are “quick reviews” of the products… if anything changes I will add followup

1. Dermalogica Daily Microfoliant (Full Size $50)
I’m quite interested in this product because I’ve never tried any Dermalogica products or powder exfoliant.
The packaging is designed like a shaker. At first glance I found that powder is white, light weight and similar appearance to baking soda. It can be a bit messy so make sure to do this over the sink. There’s a scent but it’s not particular strong and I don’t find it leaning towards anything in particular. When you add water to the powder there’s light foaming/creamy. It appears to be a very gentle exfoliant and I do find that my skin becomes smoother.

2. Eye Rock Designer Liner
(Full Size is 2pack for $13)
I don’t know what it is about the temporary tattoos in the makeup world. There’s tattoo nails, tattoo lips and now tattoo eye liner. I haven’t tried this product out yet. However my first impression would be that it’s a bit gimmicky but could be fun to use for costume makeup. The “tattoo” is jet black, it comes in a peel form, and with 4 different eyeliner designs to choose from. The eyeliner design is rather long and will need to be trimmed upon application. I personally wouldn’t buy this product as I don’t have issues with eyeliner application but doesn’t mean I won’t invent an occasion for it.

3. Jouer Lumizing Moisture Tint  (Full Size $38)
I don’t know what it is about Jouer but they sure are stingy with their samples. I really enjoy most of my Birchbox samples but every time I get Jouer brand stuff …it’s the smallest sample known to man! Whew, that’s off my chest!
Anyways, I got the color in Golden which is a hint bronzey compared to my regular skintone. Nevertheless the product blends in smoothly, has a wash of golden shimmer, no significant scent, light weight and very light coverage. It does give my skin a luminous appearance without being over the top noticeable.

Is it worth the full size price tag? I don’t know yet… the sample is too tiny to tell ><

4. Juice Beauty Blemish Clearing Serum (Full Size $29)
This is a clear yellowish toned serum and it works amazing. I used it once yesterday and I can see noticeable difference already. I think it has hint of citrus scent. The serum is leans more towards liquid then gel form. I’m pretty sold on this product already though I just tried it. I think it’s a keeper. 🙂

5. Other Stuff
I really liked the packing in this month Birchbox! There was silver and gold tissue paper and a cute heart nail file. I really got to take better care of my nails, they keep chipping. Meh. Oh I’m excited to use my Birchbox points to get The Balm’s Nude Palette and some Ahava hand cream! Yay for Birchbox points! This month also came with a free download from Green River Ordinance but the site didn’t work. Well if you are interested in listening, I’d say try Grooveshark.

YT Michelle Phan’s MyGlam Jan 2012 Beauty Box ($10/month)

1) The Balm’s Shady Lady Eye Shadow in Luscious Lani
2) Sheer Cover Duo Concealer in Light & Medium
3) Freeman Peel Off Cucumber Mask
4) Wen Conditioner in Almond Mint
5) MyGlam I love Nature makeup bag

My first response to this beauty box is GET IT! Jump on the MyGlam wagon because the products are amazing and I got 3 full size items, generous deluxe sample + makeup bag. I’m uncertain if this generosity is because MyGlam just launched in Dec 2011 but I’m not complaining 😛 It was way more value than $10 and I would recommend trying this service over Birchbox. Don’t get me wrong I really enjoy my Birchbox but MyGlam is freakin’ AWESOME.

MyGlam’s I love Nature Beauty Bag – 6 X 8
This bag is adorable! It’s a small travel bag, green zipper and cotton fabric. I think these makeup bags are a very nice touch to the product.

Freeman Peel – Off Cucumber Mask (Full Size)
Can be purchased at Freeman Beauty and CVS stores
This full size product is $3.99 for 5 fl oz

I love masks and I immediately tried out this mask. It’s very affordable and comes in a huge bottle! The mask is a clear gel formula that smells slightly like cucumbers. You apply to your complete face and wait 10 min. Then you peel it off. It’s a bit weird looking because looks like you peel paste off your hands…almost like a layer of skin. It’s very easy to do, completely painless and afterwards my face does feel firmer. I believe this bottle would last you a very long time.

My Glam Limited Time Special (Save 16%) get 3 Freeman Masks for only $10, click here

The Balm’s Shady Lady Eye Shadow in Luscious Lani (Full Size)
This item can be purchased at The Balm store
This retails for $16
3.4g / 0.12 oz

First off, this eye shadow pan is huge! It’s probably 1.5 inches round, it’s almost size of some of my blushes! It comes in a simple packaging, twist off top and leopard print logo. I was very excited because this particular color is one I always gravitate towards. It’s a shimmery pearl peachy pink. This would be great for highlight the inner corners of your eyes. The shadow is buttery, smooth, and very true to pigmentation. This product alone was enough to satisfy me!

Wen Conditioner in Almond Mint – 1oz
Can be purchased at Wen Store

I haven’t tried this yet but I’m very excited because I’ve heard great things about the Wen brand. I’ll keep you posted!
My Glam Limited Time Special – (Save $20) 5pc Wen hair system for $30 here at Wen Store

Sheer Cover Duo Concealer in Light / Medium (Full Size)
This item can be purchased at Sheer Cover
This retails for $29, however I see plenty of their kits with this item for much less!

I’ve never tried or heard of Sheer Cover. I went to the site and I see they mainly specialize in mineral makeup.
I love how their concealer is a duo concealer. It’s a cream based formula and comes in handy clear case. I’ve tried this under my eyes and it wears quite well.

My Glam Limited Time Special – ($100 value) $20 get Sheer Cover kit  + 3 gifts here

Well that’s my first MyGlam Jan 2012 Beauty box.
Am I satisfied? – Hell Yes 🙂
Would I repurchase/recommend – Yep!

BTW if you are interested in getting MyGlam you should do it as soon as they sell out fast as they have limited boxes.
They also do gift subscriptions!

This is my Jan 2012 Birchbox.
I’ve been a Birchbox subscriber since March 2011. So far, I’ve really enjoyed the service and I find that it adds value for me to try new products, learn about new brands and often I get way more value than I paid for.

With that being said, Birchbox is a bit of toss up because it’s like receiving a present from a friend. Sometimes they are very generous and you receive a full size product, sometimes they show you products you’d wouldn’t other know of but will love  and other times it’s a miss that you aren’t that interested.

Overall, the boxes are nicely wrapped, a good variety of high-end brands and I love getting presents in the mail!

Jan 2012 – Theme is Clarity
I received the following in my Birchbox (can vary customer to customer)
1) Stila eye liner in Peacock
2) Viva La Juicy Fragrance vial
3) VMV hypoallergic all purpose lotion
4) Origins Checks & Balances frothy cleanser
* Treat – (fun non-beauty item) Lara bar in chocolate chip

Below are quick reviews of the products… if anything changes I will add followup 🙂

Stila smudge stick waterproof eye liner in Peacock (full size )
I absolutely thrilled I received this product in my Birchbox. I’ve been looking for a high quality bright eyeliner for awhile. I wore this yesterday and it’s true to its name. The color is opaque, bold, smudge resistant, smooth and easy to apply. The applicator is automatic pencil style. It retails for $20!

Viva La Juicy Fragrance  (vial)
I always wished the Birchbox fragrance came in cute little bottles instead of vials. I am happy that the vial at least has a spray. The fragrance is a blend of sweet floral and fruity scents. It has wild berries, mandarins, honeysuckle, gardenia, jasmine, amber, caramel, vanilla, sandalwood and praline. The full size bottle has adorable packaging! Overall it’s a nice scent but a bit sweet for me.

VMV hypoallergic all purpose lotion (1oz)
It’s all purpose exfoliating lotion. I don’t know why it says exfoliating because it’s doesn’t seem to at all and it doesn’t have beads/chunks in the formulation. It’s a white smooth lotion but it has a faint smells that I don’t particularly enjoy. Overall, it’s just seems like regular lotion. It is 100% paraben free.

Origins Checks & Balances frothy cleanser (1oz)
I’ve been very interested in Origins brand for quite some time. This sample will last you for ages! You only need the tiniest amount of product as it quickly foams when in contact with water. It’s gives me a nice clean feeling without my skin being too tight or oily.

Lara Bar
I mean for a energy bar this  it wasn’t bad at all. It did taste like chocolate chip bar but with like pine nuts?

Overall, I’m very satisfied with all the products I received in Jan 2012 Birchbox.

Review: June 2011 Birchbox
This box was dubbed the ‘wanderlust’ themed box and seems a fitting name since I did end up traveling quite a bit this month. Thus I’ve still working on trying out all the products. But boy was I excited when I got my June Birchbox! I was a little naughty and peeked at Ebrushka’s Makeup Bag blog post about her Birchbox. With that being said, not everyone gets the same items in their box so I wasn’t completely cheating on the surprise factor.

I was so happy I got FULL-SIZE Laura Geller Blush n Brighten (Honey-Dipped) in my June Box. This compact alone retails for $30 us dollars. I’ve heard a lot about Laura Geller baked products from Youtube’s Beauty Broadcaster Emilynoel83 but I wasn’t ready to shell out the dough for it without trying them. So far the only places I know you can purchase Laura Geller products are on QVC (tv show), qvc.com, birchbox.com and CVS 360 beauty stores.

Laura Geller’s Blush n Brighten (in Honey Dipped) is a baked product. So you can use it wet or dry. It says perfect for highlighting, blush and contouring. I’ve heard it’s comparable to Mac mineralized skin finishes.

Honey Dipped’s color is a light golden beige with hints of gold shimmer and with a bronze undertone. The shimmer isn’t chunky or glittery but I would still avoid a heavy hand.

It’s great for the summer months. Only caveat is I find it a bit light for my skin tone but for those who love a lighter bronzer this would be perfect. Compact size .32oz /9 grams.
2nd  Anticipated Product:
Pangea Organics Facial Toner in Italian Green Mandarin & Sweet Lime
It’s smells minty and with lots of citrus notes. I like how it came with a mini-face pump. I’m really excited to try it out tomorrow. I’ll keep you updated if turns out promising!

June Birchbox: (This comes in the a card with all Birchboxes)
1. Kate Spade Perfume in Twirl
2. Laura Geller Baked Blush n’ Brighten in Honey Dipped
3. Oscar Blandi Olio Di Jasmine Hair Serum
4. Pangea Organics Toner
(Extra Samples) Herban Essentials Orange Toweletters + Pangea Organic Facial Cream sample

Overall: I love getting my Birchbox in the mail.
This has been my 2nd full size product after 3 months of Birchbox. The first was a Stila Eyeshadow in Mahogany (retail $18 us dollars). So score! considering this box only costs me $10 dollars and I received $30 blush + 5 other products to try out.

I’d highly recommend trying out Birchbox if you love trying new beauty products, beauty product rut, don’t use many products or it’s a perfect gift!

I love how it’s a surprise that comes in the mail every month ^_^
I just wanted to get this post out so you’d have time to sign up for July Birchbox!!!
Only 2 more days so get on it!

Cheers!

Birchbox Rave!
(I paid for this with my own money)

This is my 2nd Birchbox. I really enjoy this service. It’s quite a delight to see this box in my mail box since I know it’s filled with goodies. Despite my reluctant nature to be surprised, I’ve found that Birchbox has got some great stuff. Even if it’s not a product that I usually pick I think it’s good to widen my horizons. ^^

5. You don’t get to choose or know what in your box, it’s a surprise.

*Birchbox samples are from high-end brands like Jouer, Stila, Nars, Laura Mercier …just to name a few and deluxe samples are portioned for multiple uses. “Deluxe similar Travel-Friendly size”

You can cancel your subscription at anytime.

Ok so I was very hesitant about this service. Let’s be truthful…who wants to pay for samples? Well that wasn’t me. However, after seeing all the positive reviews from Youtube makeup gurus and the buzz from blogs I was quite curious.

What does $10 dollars get you in high-end makeup? Would the samples be worthwhile? Do I like surprises?

Well first off, these samples are VERY GENEROUS! This month I got full size stila eyeshadow pan which retails for $18 in my box. So money-wise this is a great deal if you are interested in trying out high-end brands. Recently, due to skin dryness, I’ve been really into trying new moisture products. I’d have to say my Birchbox has been good to me. I don’t want to shell out $$$ for skincare but this way I can try out new stuff and see if I like it.

There is a caveat that by trying out things …you might actually love them. Which can be a bit pricey as they are high-end products.

Surprises! I love getting gifts in the mail. These boxes are right down my alley. Since every package is hand packed and seriously like a nicely wrapped gift from a friend. It comes in a sturdy box, 2 layers of tissue, ribbon, and a description card. A+++ for packaging!

Now to the good stuff!

Stila Eyeshadow Pan in Mahogany
So I’ve heard a lot about the Stila brand but this is my first Stila item. Actually this is the full size product that they sent and it retails for $18. Anyways, this eyeshadow is very pigmented! I’m still on the fence about the color Mahogany as it is a bit dark for my tastes but I think it would be a nice crease color.

Ahava Deadsea Water Mineral Hand Cream
This is probably the most exciting sample that I received. So my boyfriend always makes fun of how wrinkly and rough my ‘little’ hands are. Well this product really works! I’ve tried a lot of lotions but none work this. It really gives your hands a certain smoothness that lingers. I actually love the smell. The full size is very pricey at $20 for 3.4 oz. But I can seriously see this becoming a staple of mine.

Archipelago Pomegranate Soap
The description says this is a triple-milled soap loaded with antioxidant-rich white tea and pomegranate for a gentle clean. I haven’t tried this product yet. It’s got cute packaging and slightly scented.

BVLGARI – Mon Jasmin Noir “Essence of Jeweler”
First off, I didn’t know that jeweler’s had a scent. I always thought they would smell like metal. Anyways, this smells sophisticated and elegant. I find that sometimes when you spray a perfume you have to wait a little for the initial alcohol smell to dissipate before you can really smell the fragrance. This fragrance does not have that issue, it smells divine as soon as it is sprayed. They said it smells of fruits and jasmine. I don’t find it fruity at all. It’s rather medium strength fragrance -not too light – not too strong.

(Background info: my favorite department store perfumes are Estee Lauder’s Beyond Paradise, Lancome Hypnose) I think that BVLGARI-Mon Jasmin Noir has that similar quality that entices me to smell again because of its exquisite blend and I wouldn’t tire of it. I’d highly recommend trying this one out.

Birchbox Freebie! (Sometimes they offer a non-beauty treat)
Guess what it is! It’s TINY PRINTS card! I love love love Tiny Prints ❤. It’s a great online greeting card seller. I found out about them during their Thanksgiving Promotion. Their quality is impeccable, great card stock, and very customizable.

I find the card they sent is really cute and earthy. Plus it came with a free promo code to get a card on their website. Yeah really cool freebie…considering this is coming from the girl who makes all her on greeting cards. I’d have to say if you are going to splash out for a card that Tiny Prints is a great choice. My favorite feature is that you can  individually ship cards and you just have to pay additional cost of the postage stamp.

Since Birchbox only ships out once a month, sadly you can’t get the May box.
But you can still sign up for the June box. They usually arrive 14-18th of the month.

Cheers
